This was a REALLY long book, and I am really glad that I am finally done with it. It wasn't a bad book, but no book needs to be THIS long. The last 20% of the book was fantastic, a five star read. The rest of the book dragged.

The book is exceptional. The audiobook - though a daunting 32 hours long - is a MASTERWORK. The narrator is Simon Prebble, and the specificity and character he brings to the immense number of characters in this novel is utterly brilliant (my fave is the Northern soft rasp of Childermass).
I feel like I deserve a medal for finishing this book. As a note to my future self, I don't want to read this again because I don't like the ending. It's a long and convoluted book and while parts of it were interesting, parts of it were not.
