What Members Thought

I feel like one of the last people to read this book. It was all over the blogs over the summer. This book was the October pick for my book club.
I don’t think I have anything original to say about the book that others haven’t already said. I think it was incredibly clever the way Seth Grahame-Smith incorporated the zombies into the rest of the story, quite seamlessly. Though I will admit that I laughed out loud at some of the sheer ridiculousness of this book I have to say, it was pretty dumb. I loved Pride and Prejudice, but it wasn't so much that I felt the classic was being changed, it just went way beyond suspension of belief.

80 percent original text and 20 percent ultra violent zombie mayhem. Eh. This book takes many relationship twists and human will that is so wonderfully articulated in the original and uses zombie wars as the reason for why people do the things they do. All human motivation is defined, and that is Austen’s talent. This has promise, but sort of let me down.

I loved the idea of this book. Take a great book and add zombies! I was all set for some light-hearted fun. Too bad the book commits a major no-no. The author actually makes quite a few changes to the plot that have nothing to do with zombies, and let's face it: Jane Austen doesn't need help.

This was okay...I kept wanting to go back to the original and remember what really happenned. Zombies didn't actually drive the plot, just sort of haphazardly inserted.

I've read Pride and Prejudice once and it kind of bored me. This made it quite a lot more interesting.
