Ugh, did not like this book at all... read it for a reading challenge... very wordy and very dry!!
I listened to this as an audio book. AND it was through librivox.org. I think this really played a factor into my enjoyment of this story, as each chapter is read by a different person.
I also just couldn't really get into the story. I guess I like my vampires to be a little more modern day and with a touch of romance added in.
I did find it interesting/ amusing to learn that this story contained the Van Helsing character. ...more

Classic. Stoker is quite skilled at capturing the distinct dialects of different cultures and people (although the American cowboy was a bit one-dimensional) and the story unfolds deliberately and methodically. Not as gruesome as the story has evolved into, but some solid creepiness is present throughout. Obviously social statements are also present and give much to ponder. My only gripe — were there no editors back then?? This could have been trimmed quite a bit and still been impactful, maybe
