This is a good Halloween read—a short, entertaining mystery with the right amount of creepiness. Plus, I love a good book centered on wandering around the moors!
I began this book as a means of preparing me for The Moor by Laurie King. I enjoyed my return to Holmesian mysteries, since it's been 10+ years. Although this one had several red herrings, it follows Doyle's usual structure right to the end. A fun but quick read.

This seemed to be a book that I seemed to read through fits and stages and finally was able to get myself to read the final bit this past weekend. While I found that book to be ramble at times, I found that the last few chapters of the book is what made the book for me. The story was clever in that one didn't get the full story until the final chapter, which sometimes I find is lacking in modern mystery books.
