This was our family read aloud this month, and we all loved it. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong, but Phileas Fogg and his servant remain noble-hearted and selfless. Plenty of violence, a bit of romance, and an awesome ending. There is a chapter on Mormonism, too, which was interesting!

I might have rated this a solid four stars but the fact that I listened to it with my family (my husband and eleven-year-old son both LOVED this classic!) pushes it up to five for me. Very fun adventure story! Well told with fun characters and engaging plot. I was totally engaged as the group makes their way around the world.

I thought it was interesting to think of how this technology was so current at the time and yet how much has changed since then. What would a modern circumnavigation look li

Really cool! I had a lot of fun reading this for the first time. I'd never read anything by Jules Verne. I had a daily portion of the story delivered through the Serial Reader app (free); it kept me from rushing through the story and I was excited to get each day's installment.

Phileas Fogg and Passepartout, his athletic French manservant journey from London around the world, with Fogg wagering 20,000 pounds that he'll make it in 80 days. Great settings and adventures occur. With romance as well

It's fun to read a book about travel when Hong Kong "was a little English colony near the Chinese coast." A book that predates the international date line, this story focuses more on train schedules and shipping lanes than one would think, given its popularity in pop culture. (There's no hot air balloon! Why do all the covers include a hot air balloon!) Verne skips the action around rather randomly, not seeing fit to include anything interesting happening in Europe or on several of the ocean voy ...more

This classic tale of a Englishman with time and money enough to make a wager that he can travel around the world in 80 days was a great adventure story. I listened to it; as I do for a lot of classics; on libravox which is one of the many places online to listen to public domain works. The various readers who tell the story sometimes bring the story to life while others distract. Overall I enjoyed the story and hope to read more of Verne's novels soon. ...more

I always thought I knew the plot of this classic, but the more I read, the more I realised that I didn’t! I never knew about the policeman who was on Phileas Fogg’s case, for instance, nor of the young Indian woman they rescue from impending death. A fun adventure.
