This book was such a fascinating read! It was unique and intriguing and beautifully written. I had a bit of a struggle staying engaged through a few chapters in the middle but it recaptured my attention and held me tight in it's grip for the last 1/3 of the book, which I read quickly and thoroughly enjoyed. I didn't realize how deeply I'd fallen for the main character and his unique situation until the very end when I found myself moved to tears. I think this was a lovely and fascinating, albeit

It takes a graveyard to raise a child…so is the premise of Neil Gaiman’s new book, The Graveyard Book. Nobody Owens is a baby when his family is murdered in their home. Nobody has slipped out right before The Man Jack with his knife enters and wanders up to the graveyard. Nobody is taken in by the residents of the graveyard who promise to raise him.

I listened to this for the most part though had to get the book as well for the evenings when I could no longer rationalize being in the car. (Neil Gaiman's voice is lovely - I often found myself sitting in the car because I wanted him to continue the telling.) It's a great story for both young and less-young adults.
Listening again, just because I love his voice so much, and the stories (because it really is a series of short stories about a shared cast of characters) are even better in review. ...more

A story with an interesting premise*, The Graveyard Book catches you up and keeps you reading. As in Coraline, the reader never feels entirely safe: bad things can (and sometimes do) happen. My only complaint is the illustrations - they are sketchy, unpleasing (to me), and often seem to have little to do with the text they accompany.
