What Members Thought

This is a magical book, in all the best ways, and made even more so by Gaiman's reading of it for the audio version. He gives a delightful voice to all the characters, as we follow Bod throughout his childhood. It had the sort of charming magic of the Harry Potter series--there's definitely danger, and scariness, and darkness, but there's a beauty to the story as well. Oh Newbery commitee....you do confound me. I have no idea why you pick the books you do and this was also the case with this book. I liked the book - it was a unique story of a boy who lives in a graveyard - between two worlds. But the best book in children's literature of the year? My students enjoyed it but there were definitely parts that were hard to get through....
