I'd been hearing about the Lunar Chronicles for awhile but wasn't that interested in picking them up, largely because I had this idea in my head that they were about werewolves (due to the word "lunar" in the name, I guess). Not that I won't enjoy a good werewolf book, but I do have a bit of YA werewolf fatigue. So clever and captivating! A great retelling and improvement on the Cinderella!
What a well-crafted novel that reimagines the Cinderella fairytale but with a “cyborg-plague-post WW4 world” kind of twist. In Cinder, the author has created a character that is talented and likable/relatable, an outcast who digs deep to carry forward, despite her wicked stepmother/legal guardian. Fairy tale meets science fiction - this gets four stars mostly because I enjoyed seeing how the well-known story would play out in this futuristic setting. This is not your docile Disney Cinderella, but I still rather enjoyed reading about the cyborg mechanic and her Prince Charming. Since this is the first in a series, though, don't expect a happily-ever-after ending. Hopefully my wait on the hold list for book two isn't too long!
