What Members Thought

Ug. One of the main problems I had with this is that I listened to it on a playaway and despised the reader. His inflections were continually over-dramatic. And the voices he used for the female characters made it seem like he was mocking the women (or even All Women). Is that what men think women sound like? I am listening to a book now that has multiple POV and the male reader just reads the text. No problem.
So it is interesting to note that I hated how the reader made the women sound, but my ...more

Book one in the Raven Cycle.
Blue comes from a family of psychics, but can't see the future the way the rest of her family does. Her talent is to amplify psychic energy. For the first time ever, while gathering the names of the soon-to-be-dead on St. Mark's Eve, Blue sees a spirit; his name is Gansey and he's a Raven Boy, one of the arrogant rich kids who attend a local private school.
Gansey is on a quest to find a legendary Welsh king, and he's roped in his friends, Adam, Ronan, and Noah, to he ...more

I'm definitely still enthralled by this story. By Blue and Her Raven Boys, by the magic and the fate, by the glimpses of the future, by the promises we get from the very first series that set us up for how our hearts will be broken in another book or two. I've got so much piqued interest all across this first book though.

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the second one to come out in September. Great storyline, relatable characters, a really good read that managed to be enough story for one book (not too drawn out) but still leave plenty of questions for the next book.

It's not that the story is fantastic-it's okay, but I love Stiefvater's writing style. She draws me in and I can't help but love all of her characters. Pete got me hooked on this series and the audiobook reader is fantastic.
2nd reading-I LOVED reading it this time because I wasn’t trying to piece the mystery together, so I could enjoy all the little details. I love the writing, the audio reader, the characters and the dialogue. So good. ...more

Meh. the writing seemed like the author was doling out loaves instead of bread crumbs. I wasn't much interested in loner girl meets rich boy and the angst of teen love. Might have had more teeth if the protagonists were in their 20s?
