I really loved this book! There were times I was cheering Auggie on, cringing because i knew what was about to happen to him, or crying right along with him.
At first I was a little turned off by the change in which character was telling the story, but I came to see that this gave a new perspective to a touching story. The only voice I felt was unnecessary was Justin's. I didn't think his narrative added to the story. I also disliked the shift in grammar that was used only for his character.

A good, heartwarming story with a great message. Here is a children's novel that I can actually see children reading -- which is a good thing -- except that, based on the buzz I'd heard about it, I was expecting near-Newbery material along the same lines as The Wednesday Wars or Inside Out & Back Again (so that's why only three stars from me). Still, this would be a great book for parents to share with their nine- or ten- or eleven-year-old to help facilitate a discussion about friendship, kindn

11 year-old Auggie has lived his whole life protected from the mainstream world by his family, who have seen him through many surgeries for a condition that alters his facial features from what most people would consider 'normal'. Now that Auggie is recovered from his most recent major operation and ready for 5th grade, his mother feels it is time for him to attend school rather than teaching him herself.

This book should be required reading in late elementary/early middle school. Even if you never see anyone with the severe facial deformities that August deals with the ideas and discussions this book generates could be enlightening. No, I'm not the intended audience but many adults like some of the ignorant ones in the book might need this book too.

My nine year old son read this and loved it. He rated it 10 stars. I can only give it five here, but it is deserving. This is a story of August's first year of middle school, and the first time he has ever gone to school because of the many surgeries he has had to correct his severe facial abnormalities.

This was a great YA book. My 10 year old read it and recommended that I read it after him. I'm so happy I did! The characters were realistic and the story was heartwarming. I loved seeing the story through so many different perspectives. If you have a child 10-14, they should read this book!

I think this book arrived in my hands at just the right time, which might be why it resonated with me so strongly. However, based on the other reviews, maybe it's just that great a book.
I loved Auggie. And Via. And Daisy. And their parents. And Jack and Charlotte and Miranda and Summer and Henry and Miles and even Julian - the characters were written so well, so openly, so sweetly that it was hard not to. I cannot wait for my kids to read this book. If they don't soon, I'll be reading it to them ...more
