What Members Thought

I read this at the suggestion of a sixth grade student. It's her current favorite book. I totally get this. It's romantic, very, and yet not explicit, so I don't imagine parents would have any issues with the relationship between the two main characters. It's theme dark, there's a tragedy, but the way the novel is structured, with flashbacks and an excellent character device, the book is actually uplifting. I haven't read the sequel yet, but I'm assuming that by the abrupt ending and the length of the book, that they probably could have been one book. Also, be warned, if you're reading the ebook, it ends with about 78% left because of the acknowledgments, etc. I guess now I'll have to watch the movie AND read the sequel.

I liked the concept of choosing between living or letting go and I liked being able to follow Mia's process of choosing as she remembered life before the accident and considered what life would hold after the accident. I wasn't a fan of the language and a few of the cheesier, cliched scenes. It was an interesting concept but I don't get the huge hype. I'm more intrigued by the movie now and curious how they make the story work on film.

What a tragic tale! Mia loses her whole family in a bad car accident while she herself hovers outside of her body watching her friends and extended family keep vigil over her. She has the hardest decision in the whole world ahead of her... live or die?
