Yep, it's 100% as good as everyone says. Not only that, but it's also proof that it's possible to write a long period romance and not have it get repetitive and boring during the middle 2/3 while you wait for the inevitable coupling. (TBH, it's reassuring that it's ok I'm so bored by like 75% of the romances/romance-adjacent books I read -- I was starting to think making the story compelling throughout wasn't possible.) This was a fun book that started out as a young man's last hurrah before taking up the mantle of his father's business...and turned into an action novel with alchemy and pirates. (I guess I never read all the way to the end of the description.) I liked the novel more when it was being what seemed to be realistic, and felt like it got off track (and stayed there) once they were talking about immortality. A rip-roaring romp through 18th century Europe that feels like the first chapter to this young man's discovery of self and what it really means to have a good life.
