welp turns out every other YA reader I know was right, this was rad af
I felt this book really hit it's strides halfway through. By then the characters were well known to me and seeing them further developed through flashbacks and having their relationships progressed by the action of the plot was very gratifying. Nina and Inej were particular favourites of mine. To be honest I would have liked more of a tidy conclusion to this novel (wishful thinking given my awareness of a sequel!), especially as I read it whilst on holiday. I re-read this and it still slaps
This is SO MUCH BETTER than the Alina Starkov series. I'm looking forward to reading the follow-up, which I basically never felt when reading the Shadow and Bone series. Interesting and unique characters and a fast-paced heist-type storyline kept me engaged the whole way through.
