This book. I started reading it several months ago, but I had to stop because it made me feel so much. I did not stop because I did not like it or was not interested in it, but because it amplified emotions I was already feeling and had been feeling for so long. It was actually painful to read it. I put it down.
When the book won the Printz Award last week, I knew I wanted to finish it. I’m glad I did, although it was not easy.

Shelves: coming-of-age, ya-fiction, ya-lgbtq

There are probably not enough YA books that deal with the actual emotion part of grief. With the messy feelings part. And I was really impressed that it articulated and gave space to the anger part of grief.
Marin, a college freshman, experienced a painful loss right before the start of school and struggles to just be a girl.
