I read this book two or so years ago and just reading the title now makes me feel warm. The sense of family, the innovative lives, the changes and the acceptances are all wonderfully presented.

Count Alexander is on house arrest in the renowned Metropol hotel across from the Kremlin. The main character Rostov passes the decades making a whole world and life out of a hotel and the people he encounters in it. He adopts as his own 9-year-old girl left behind by a famous actress. Very engaging character. Very charming book.
