THIS BOOK STRESSED ME OUT SO MUCH OMG
I read it all in one day. Also I skimmed a lot of the math. There were a lot of equations in this book? Also I'm not really into space? Also surival/adventure stories tend to give me suicidal urges? basically what I'm saying is that I am not the target audience for this book and I probably wouldn't have picked this up if it hadn't been so talked up.
But I really enjoyed it! It's very funny in places, with a great cast of characters. It's a definite page-turne ...more

So, everyone in the world told me I had to read this book. And I knew that I did -- it was on my to-read list, I went out and bought a copy of it and everything. But then we passed my book => movie window. If a book has a movie coming out and I intend to see that movie in the theater and I don't get the book read at least six months before the movie drops, then I have to wait until after I see the movie. Or I will spend the entire movie silently swearing in my head at the director, scriptwriter,

The Martian is a gripping story, one I didn't want to put down because I wanted to make sure Mark Watney made it home safely. With the recent movie and all the hype around this book, I think everyone knows the plot already: Astronaut Mark Watney gets stranded on Mars because his team had to leave the planet in a hurry and all signs indicated that he had died in the freak storm that was forcing them off the planet. He's badly injured and needs to figure out how to survive alone on a hostile plane

Two things: 1) I saw the movie before reading this, which I hate doing, because I feel like it taints the reading experience. I was pleased that they generally stayed true to the book, although picturing the various actors through the story was a bit limiting. 2) Space scares the crap out of me. I almost threw up while watching "Apollo 13", and I refuse to watch "Gravity". So this book was technically in the thriller genre for me. That being said, I really liked this book. It's a solid piece of

I absolutely loved this book! Admittedly, there were some concerns about the huge amount of "science stuff" throughout, but Andy Weir made it completely accessible and my eyes didn't cross too much with the technical stuff. The story was compelling and witty and I finished it pretty quickly for the small chunks of time I had available to read it.

It can get a liiiiiiiitle too sciencey, but honestly I wouldn't take it away from the book as it does add to the realism. Stayed up way too late finishing it, because it was quite exciting. Looking forward to the movie!

Awesome! This book made me want to be an astronaut and I don't like space. The true and current science is cool and the suspense makes you unable to but this book down. A must read!

I think I'm in love with the protagonist! I so wish Mark was real!
Although I wish I could enjoy the nerdy Science bits, overall, loved the book! ...more

It is pretty clear that this book is pretty "movie ready" and I have read that is is being made into a movie. The book is pretty entertaining and the plot zigs when you expect it to zag. It can feel a bit like McGyver in space, with lots of engineering and science fixes, but even without a huge science background I really enjoyed this book.
