This was a lovely, beautiful, meandering read. A story about love, about loss, about friendship, grief, adventure, travel, and the joys of committing yourself to truly living. It’s beautifully written—I found myself reading sections over and over and aloud because they were beautiful. I fell in love with the characters and their quirks. I just could not get into this book. When Jean Perdu (such a heavy-handed "clever" name!) just started having sex with this woman he'd just met, after he hadn't been able to think about any other woman for over twenty years? It just felt so unbelievable. He hadn't been given enough time as a character - I don't think - to be changed by all of the outside forces.
