Gahh, swoon! Mixed tapes of 80s music and big white girls falling in love with boys of Asian descent?! Hello, my life. I usually flee in horror from any book that could be called a "romance," but the time period and the protagonists (as well as this book's inclusion on the list of best books of 2013 for young adults) convinced me to give it a go. I love books that make me cry. This is just a sweet little YA book for those of us who can't get over Bridge to Terabithia. If you like books about male and female best friends or first loves, this is the book for you. The novel uses both Eleanor and Park's narrative voices, so you get both sides of the story. This is the best YA book I've read in years. And I haven't felt so in love with a YA book since the first time I read Looking for Alaska.
Stunning entry, beautiful characters, sad and lovely and romantic and real.

In the beginning I got a bit annoyed with the over-dramatic-ness, the questioning of everything, the enormity of how the characters felt every situation - but about 1/4 in, I got it. They're teenagers, everything is life & death, everything is questioned & it made me love the book even more. It's real, it's sweet, & I already miss Eleanor & Par
