The final part of the Divergent trilogy answers questions about the factions and reveals what is really going on outside the fence. Roth also deals with bigger issues with a science fiction model that makes an easy allusion to societal problems. Even without a faction structure people create their own ways to divide themselves. what a mess. i'm actually tempted to give this one star, since roth clearly gave no thought to how absurd and half-baked this wrap-up was. i would go into the many, many issues in this book, but i think they can all be summed up with these words: "death serum."

note: seeing as i've forgotten 1/5 of the second book, and had to read wikipedia to refresh me on what the hell is going on, i have the feeling this is going to be a bewildering/frustrating read.

Not bad. Kind of slow by comparison to the first two. I saw a lot of reviewers didn't like it because of the end. But I thought the end was what saved it. Not everyone gets a happy end, and dying to save thousands is a worthy death. ...more

Started this one and discovered that I apparently don't remember a single event or character (besides Tris and Tobias) from book 2, so I read the Wikipedia article about Insurgent, and I still don't remember much of anything, and now this one is due back to the library with a long waiting list, so maybe I'll try re-reading the second one before I consider coming back to this one. ...more
