What Members Thought

I first heard about Wonder by R.J. Palacio while listening to NPR; it was the September selection for the NPR Backseat book club which is a book club for young readers. I was immediately taken with the story's premise and then really loved the author interview. I also really enjoyed the passages of the book being read by fifth graders. Even though we did not select it for our book club, I was excited to read it and LOVED the characters and the story.

I love this book! It's a wonderful story of August, a child who has "different" face- and try to adjust to his new life at regular school, after all those years of being homeschooled. The story is very inspiring, packed with emotional scenes, realistic characters and the most important thing: flowing dialogues. Seriously, I've read many middle grader books lately that have too childish or too mature conversations inside. But RJ Palacio could immerse easily into the middle grader lives. Love love

wonderful!

This book needs to be on the required reading list for every human being. It was beautifully written and shows the importance of accepting others and accepting ourselves, no matter what hand we've been dealt. Auggie is an inspiration; Summer is the picture of kindness. So many things can be learned by everyone, no matter their age, from this book.

Really good, solid message. Definitely a must-read for a young person. To me, it didn't live up to the hype and I didn't get really attached to the story. I think I knew what was going to happen from the beginning. But it was a feel good story about kindness, physical differences, and how to deal in difficult situations that arise in life.
