Short story collections are alternately awesome and a pain in the ass. Awesome because you can just pick them up, read a story or two, and then put them down and get back whenever. The pain in the ass is that "get back whenever" can turn into, as it was in this case, just about a year (and can presumably be even longer, I suppose).
