What Members Thought

This book and I are not starting off on the right foot. First of all, the names are stupid and sound made up (I mean, "Celaena Sardothien"? seriously??). Never the sign of a good fantasy. Second, each character is introduced by his/her full name. ugh. Never the sign of a skilled writer. Not to mention, why do I care what their full names are? Throw it in later, if you must - have someone call out "hey Mr Fullname!" and you've got it. But instead, we've got needless repetitions of FullName FullNa

It took me a little while to get into this but ahhh, so fun! There are a lot of familiar fantasy tropes and characters in here but it was just so fun I kept going. I liked that Maas assumes that you'll understand the tropes she's using without needing to fill in a ton of world-building... I think a certain type of fantasy fan would likely want way more info about the magic (or lack thereof) and political unrest happening here, but for me I was like, "great, I get it, let's move on, thanks!"
