With all its quirks and things that I didn’t really care for, Dune is still an entertaining narrative, especially considering it is 50 years old.

While there were aspects I appreciated and found interesting (Stilgar, the Bene Gesserit) the further the book went on the less and less interesting I found it and the more it's age started to show through. I can understand its place as a classic of the genre, but I'm afraid it just wasn't for me! ...more

In Dune, from the first sentence you are thrown into a whirlwind that starts off many a millennia from now when mankind has populated the galaxies and now wage war among the profits that are to be gained. The world building is complex and complete. Dune and the planet Arrakis, have a complete culture and subculture that I couldn't help but feel compelled to learn more about. The Fremen give off an almost magical mystique that I couldn't help but feel the urge to learn more about.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: Dune isn't SciFi, it's just fantasy in space with literally no scientific features. Just so you know what you're getting into.

3.5★. It was pretty good but doesn't feel worth all the insane love it gets.
