This be one of my favourite reads this year
This book was exciting , atmosphere , punchy in its plot. You had characters that you loved & hated , situations that were amazing for your imagination.
The chemistry between Tris and Four was palpating throughout the book in strong waves , that I think alongside Elizabeth and Mr Darcy, Anne Elliott & Captain Wentworth , Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, Claire Beauchamp & Jamie Fraser they are one of my favourite fictional couples.

I really really enjoyed this book. I loved the Hunger Games trilogy and that is really the only dystopian book I have read, I wasn't always sure that it was something I'd like.

Divergent is the first in a trilogy, this and the final book in the trilogy have been picked as challenge reads in my book club 2013-14 so I thought I'd give them a go. I downloaded all three to my Kindle and settled in with Divergent this weekend. I read the entire book in one sitting, in a few hours this Sunday morning.

I I really really enjoyed this book. I loved the Hunger Games trilogy and that is really the only dystopian book I have read, I wasn't always sure that it was something I'd like.

I downloaded all three to my Kindle and settled in with Divergent this weekend. I read the entire book in one sitting, in a few hours this Sunday morning.

I was really quickly hooked into the story, I saw similarities to the Hunger Games, the coming of age, the selection process etc but they are incredibly different stories and I know even after one book, they will follow very different paths.

Beatrice and her brother Caleb have just turned 16. At 16 everyone has to go through an aptitude test to determine which faction they should join, Amity, Candor, Erudite, Abnegation or Dauntless. Beatrice takes the test and her result is inconclusive, the worst thing that could happen, she is divergent, she could fit in one of 3 factions. At the Choosing Ceremony Beatrice must choose to leave her faction and her family and switch to a different one, or to stay as Abnegation and live a selfless life. Beatrice chooses to switch to Dauntless.

Divergent follows Beatrice as she is brought into the Dauntless faction, going through the initiation tests to see whether or not her and her fellow transfers will make it. Beatrice becomes Tris and immerses herself, meets Four and falls for him, but he too has a secret.

The book was totally enthralling, I powered through it in a matter of hours and really loved it, the story kept me hooked and every time I found I wanted to go and do something else I'd just got to a point where I couldn't so I just had to keep going. I'm really looking forward to reading the other two books in the trilogy, and probably some of the short stories in between too.

I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the Hunger Games and wants something along similar lines. ...more

Good action. I liked that it did not have a love triangle. Some parts predictable, but usually the question was how would this resolve, not if. Ready for the next book in the series; I think it is worth continuing.
