What Members Thought
Took this on as a project for the year. Obviously a sprawling, epic horse of a book. My son calls it "The Brick" (or Le Brick, I guess). Hugo hops back and forth between the story we all know and background on history, social customs, the sewers, and other topics that add considerable depth and dimension to the book.
But is it *good*? Hugo certainly knows how to pull at the heart strings, almost to the point of melodrama. And his encyclopedic coverage of the subject and its context makes the book ...more
