What Members Thought

Well written but when you finish reading, what? I don't find a drug addicted brat interesting at all, even if he is hiding a famous primitive Flemish at home. In fact, the painting hardly appears along the 800-odd pages of the book, and when it does it is in the middle of a Sylverster Stallone's-like fight against... Summarizing, it is long and in many instances boring, it has an excess of almost 400 pages, most of which I found myself skipping once and again. This is a very well written book, b

Disclaimer : It is long. I could relate to Theo who was spiralled into a new world after a catastrophe. His love for and loss of his mom sends him on a riveting journey through arts, antiques and the criminal underworld. There are others ofcourse who will stay etched throughout the story - Hobbie, the epitome of love, Boris, the movie like brat, Pippa - the next door angel and so on!

This book is not going to be for everybody, but I have always been a fan of a slow burn novel and this is one of the finest examples. This is my first time reading a Donna Tartt book and I loved her sophisticated ,yet easily accessible writing style so much. This story is a reminder that life can be so hard, but there is so much beauty that we encounter along the way that it makes all the struggling worthwhile. Loved it.

For some reason I couldn't get past the first 10% or so. Maybe it was the scene in the museum, on audiobook seeming to take up days of my time. Fast forward a year or so, and I'm very glad I decided to try it again!! Not that I don't have my quibbles, mostly with the secondary characters, but all in all a much more exciting book that I thought it would be.

Giving 2 stars because I did enjoy the beginning and it is well written. The book drags on and on...I'm glad it is over.
