This book is extremely well written, enough that it drew me into a story that I did not really like much at all. The parts about the painting "The Goldfinch" were very good ... but I would say that was only about 100 of the 771 pages. Much of it centers on a young boy, growing into a young man, in all the worst possible ways. Through many tragedies in his life, and no one really to care for him, he becomes a drunk, drug addict, and basically, a thief. He has some friends that help him down that ...more

The length of this book kept me away from it more than once. I can say that I'm glad I listened to the audiobook rather than reading the physical copy. There were times that I really felt it getting lengthy and tedious and wasn't sure if I should keep listening. But I would and eventually the story line would pick up again. I think there are some good qualities in the book but unfortunately for me it tended to get lost in the exhaustive length. ...more

I loved this book. So far the best book of 2014. The characters were interesting and well developed. TheThe book was well written and worth the 700 pages because the story comes full circle.
