Take this review from someone who has NEVER watched The Exorcist movie....this book is really something. It's simply written, but I think that makes the disturbing parts that much more frightening, because it's given to you straight without a lot of fancy words and dancing around. It's graphically violent and yet has a great deal to say about spirituality and religion, but you don't necessarily have to be religious to understand and take in what's being said.

Surprisingly good! (Well, surprising for me -- I don't ordinarily care about this sort of topic.)
The characters were my favorite part. Father Karras was written SO well. I thought the pacing was excellent and just. Wow. It's amazing how much HAPPENS even though there isn't very much more to the story than Regan's possession. It was really frightening but in a way I haven't experienced before in a horror novel. I should re-watch the movie -- I haven't watched it in years, I barely remember it to ...more
