I rate this closer to a 4.5. The first 50 pages were hard to get through with all of the "science stuff" but after that it was so good. Yes, there were other points with lots of science stuff but the story was just so interesting that it was ok. I'm excited to finally watch the movie this weekend. ...more

I saw the movie first, and frankly, it's a toss-up which I like better. Each has its own strengths.

What I wasn't crazy about in the book was all the technical science stuff...it just isn't my cup of tea. While I appreciate the author's ability to write it, I found it really tedious to read. I was really surprised that I enjoyed this book so much. I do not usually read science fiction. It was really interesting and kept me engaged. It was very funny and I found myself laughing out loud. Now I need to watch the movie since I was putting off seeing it till after I read the book.

Wow, what a delightful book! While anxious to learn the outcome of this astronaut's situation, simultaneously I didn't ever want this clever story to end because I was enjoying his adventure so much. I highly recommend this if you like Sci-Fi. Even if you don't... this is an ingenious survival story filled with wit and humor. I'm putting this one on my list of favorite books ever. ...more
