I had difficulty getting really immersed in this book early on. I had to read the first 30-ish pages twice, but that was more on me reading when I was exhausted than on the book itself, I think. Even once the characters grew on me and the plot really got rolling, there were still times that I felt disconnected from the story. This novel did not disappoint. It’s one of those slow build up kind of stories, so I didn’t get into the story until I was somewhat far along in the story. Additionally, one of the sisters (the older one) was a bit too naive in my opinion and that got on my nerves. She gets better as the book goes along, but it took longer than I liked for her to become a stronger female character in a book that’s chock full of strong female characters.
