The Plot, and Multiple Storylines (the main ones)
Celaena/Aelin's- This was probably the second slowest of all of the storylines- in this one, she trains to use her fire powers in a stronghold of the Fae under the guidance of Rowan, a tough as nails Fae male. I was consistently This book was incredible.

Celaena/Aelin's- This was probably the second slowest of all of the storylines- in this one, she trains to use her fire powers in a stronghold of the Fae under the guidance of Rowan, a tough as nails Fae male. I was consistently entertained by Fae culture, and admire that this world that Maas has created had grown even richer and more complex.
Manon's- This was the fastest, and brought new depth to Adarlan and provided some interesting insight into life in witch covens (brutal). The Thirteen was extremely creative, and the wyvern storyline satisfied my fantasy-loving heart.
Dorian's - SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
This probably moved the slowest, but the light romance and- you guessed it- more magic was satisfying and brought some lightness into this increasingly dark book. Of course, the ending.... but I'm getting ahead of myself. I had a great time speculating on the purpose of the crystals- my initial thought being that they were the Wyrdkeys, but no, they were the cause of the frozen magic! Who knew!
Characters:
Celaena/Aelin: It was hard to see her reduced to this vulnerable state, a far cry from her usual strong, cocky self- consumed by self loathing, afraid of the responsibility her title would bring, running from her past, broken, shattered. I would argue that since this book was a journey of healing wounds and becoming strong enough to turn away from the past, embrace the present, and face the future bravely, this is more of a character driven story. She does return to her glory in the end, haunted but whole, and can I just say that I loved her "Rattle the Stars" line so much that I wrote it with sharpie on my Desk of Favorite Book Quotes, next to "Always" and "May the odds be ever in your favor"?
Rowan: I despised him at first, but slowly warmed to him- after all, he's faced unimaginable tragedy and it's hard to hate a suffering person who lashes out out of pain rather than hate
Manon: She was daring, cunning, vicious....and I loved every second of her storyline.
Sorscha: It's about time we had an innocent character. Oh wait...she wasn't completely innocent, was she? She was more complex than I would have imagined.
Chaol: I'm sorry about Celaena (I SHIPPED CHAOLAENA!!!)
Dorian: This entire book had him in a precarious position, and as for the ending...I'm curious but also scared.
This was a solid installment in the Throne of Glass series. Onward to Queen of Shadows! ...more
