Wow. I adore the TV show True Blood but somehow, never got around to reading this.
What was I waiting for?!
Devoured it in three days. Housework? Kids? what are those and who cares?! I just could not put this one down. It is different enough from the TV show that I didn't feel as though anything was spoiled. Sookie, as a character, is much funnier in print than on the small screen. I just love her internal dialogue, and her relationship with Bill is sweet and scary and breathtakingly hot without b ...more

"Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. Until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life-and one of her coworkers checks out....
Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend isn't such a bright idea." (From Amazon)

I picked this book because it could be downloaded from my library and it seemed like it had potential. I should have known after the first chapter it wasn't going to work for me. Sookie is a contradictory protagonist and there is a lot of the book that just doesn't make sense. I'm not crazy about vampires, except for the original Dracula, so I should have known better. The book needed a lot more editing and some attention needed to be paid to setting the stage for behaviors of some of the charac

First in Sookie Sackhouse mystery. Sookie can read minds of normal people, not vampires like her firend Bill, which makes him her best friend and lover. Sookie's grandmother is killed and a couple of other women and Sookie is being targeted for death too. Because she has vampire blood in her, she is a lot stronger so was able to thwart her assailant. It is kind of funny and there was quite a bit of sex in this first book.
I listened to this book and it was narrated by Johanna Parker.

It's the story about the "gifted" waitress Sookie that befriends a Vampire, in a world where vampires are acknowledged legally and are living among humans trying to "mainstream" that is to blend in with them.
She encounters some adventures, some deaths and a lot of fun..
It was a fast fun read that put a smile on my face, well actually made me grin like an idiot in a room fun of people.. I loved it and will be continuing the series as soon as I can. ...more

What a big surprise this book turned out to be. I loved it and really didn't think I would. I love when a book wows me and makes me want to keep reading. I would recommend this book but beware it is nothing like the Twilight series in case you go into thinking the way I did (I LOVED Twilight)but I didn't want a knock off version of it and it is mystery and romance. Great book.
