I’ve always loved the movie adaptation of Rosemary’s Baby. I watch it every October and still find it engrossing. Reading the novel by Ira Levin is exactly like watching the movie. They virtually changed nothing from book to film, and the two are nearly identical, down to the dialogue. If you’ve watched the movie, you don’t really need to read this.

This is classic American horror. Ira Levin can make the mundane everyday eerie and creepy. A laundry room, an old building in a busy city, a closet, a doorway, you get the picture. A young couple move into an old apartment building and the neighbors are just a little bit off. Super fast read, and hard to put down.

A horror classic I was inspired to read after The Perfect Nanny. Both bring terror to the safest of places: your own home, your neighbors and the people you should be able to most rely on. This one had the perfect amount of creepiness and built up tension, it was very enjoyable!

I also saw the original and faithful 1968 movie adaptation by Roman Polanski. Both book and movie are fantastic. ...more
