A wonderful story on the meaning of friendship set in rural Mississippi. So many factors and themes are presented in this mystery surrounding the death of a young woman from many years ago. When another girl is missing, old feelings re-emerge regarding the main suspect in the prior case. Franklin writes very well about issues of family, racism and taking responsibility, as well as friendship.

I did not care for this book. Although the story and characters were good the profanity was a turn off.

There is so much to talk about here that I'm glad we are reading this for a book club. Mystery, drama, race relations in the deep south, flashbacks, whodunnit. I may not have picked it up if it weren't for a book club, but I'm glad I did. Nicely written with well developed characters. It took me a few chapters to get into it, so keep going! ...more

This was a well-written, suspenseful story (to me, better than, say Room) I would recommend it.
