In keeping with my conviction to always read the book before seeing the movie, I went hunting for my copy of this book. Unable to find it, I turned to the public library. No luck....films always cause a resurgence in popularity and the holds list for this was 38 long. A friend came to my rescue with an e-book. Thank you Anna! It was a quick and enjoyable read....not great literature but hey, everything doesn't have to be. Tropper amuses us while telling us what we already know, life can be messy ...more

Predictable until the end...

The end moved it from a 3 to 4 star book. Enjoyed the dysfunctional comedy....felt like I was reading screen play.

I wasn't impressed with the writing. I feel this book had so much potential but fell flat. I am however giving it three stars because upon reflection it did offer a reminder to me... when you feel you have lost everything you can still find hope in "the possible." ...more

Enjoyed this novel about a very dysfunctional, non-communicative family, forced to sit shiva after the father dies. Funny at times, but in an honest way, the characters part from each other with hopefully a more adult basis to their relationships.
