Starting this today w/a coworker at work. We are going to share the audio - she has already started and is loving it so far!!
OMG!!! I finished this today - and all I can say is wow!!! This book had me crying at the end! I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it being written in the 60's and in the state of Mississippi, but I was amazing. I was so pulling for those maids!!! If you get a chance to read this book, pick up the audio - it is an amazing group of women that did a fabulous job. Ca ...more

This was a book that I devoured. I sat down to read it, couldn't stop, and the characters are still with me. I had heard so many people talking about it, but just felt like I couldn't read one more piece of "Southern fiction". I am happy to say that this book was so original and the characters so well developed that I didn't feel like it was another "genre" read.

Loved this book. Started it when I found it online as an ebook and realized that when it took place here in Jackson where I live. I enjoyed knowing where Jitney 14 was and realizing how the state of our city would have been "back in the day". I also enjoyed the humor. I hope that Kathryn writes more books.
This is also the book I will be using as the starting place of my around the world in 80 books endeavor.

I absolutely LOVED this book. Kathryn Stockett did an amazing job. I loved how the story was written from the perspectives of the different women. I enjoyed seeing the world through their very different eyes and watching them develop throughout the story. The beautifully descriptive writing drew me in and made me feel like I was right there. This is an intense story of how these different women deal with the issue of racism during the civil rights movement. It is a poignant and deeply moving nov

I really liked it. A good yarn. Well told. I liked that the auditor didn't feel compelled to "marry up" her character, Skeeter. I didn't care for the fact that "the help" spoke in dialectic dialogue, but the women who hired them did not speak "southern". But overall, I really liked it.

Enjoyed the story, the characters, and the author's writing style. I listened to the audio version during commutes and found myself looking forward to driving to work. The ending didn't flow as well for me as most of the book.
