Starting this today w/a coworker at work. We are going to share the audio - she has already started and is loving it so far!!
OMG!!! I finished this today - and all I can say is wow!!! This book had me crying at the end! I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it being written in the 60's and in the state of Mississippi, but I was amazing. I was so pulling for those maids!!! If you get a chance to read this book, pick up the audio - it is an amazing group of women that did a fabulous job. Ca ...more

The only flaw was that I wanted more from the resolution. Did Minny leave her husband for good? What happened to Abilene? Did Skeeter succeed in New York? Did Mae Mobley grow up to be like Abilene or Miss Elizabeth?

So much more than just about "the help". While referencing her own small town antics, a woman discovers the greater meaning to those who serve her and her family. To the black woman's plight in a civil rights era, to the white woman's reality unraveling with the times, the author successfully reveals the black and the white side of history. I was educated, entertained and glad to have read this book. It is everything I heard it would be - no over hype here - it was wonderful. So many lessons for
