One of the most annoying things about reading the Kindle edition of this book was the fact that popular highlights show up and you can't turn them off, at least not easily. It drove me mad. It was inevitably the parts that you'd pick out as funny for yourself, not anything surprisingly good...

I've been looking forward to this for quite a while now, ever since having my enthusiasm fired after watching a recent BBC TV adaptation.
It started strangely, only introducing the character of Dirk into the narrative nearly half way through. But soon the disparate threads start to weave together and we see how the events of the story and the characters are all connected in ways we could not have envisaged at the beginning.

Starts off a bit slowly, but soon picks up to be as funny as anything. I'm particularly fond of the sofa.

I can't decide between three or four stars. It was entertaining, clever, bizarre and funny to read. I was somewhat bewildered by the time I finished it though - I am not quite sure what happened at the end (or indeed what happened at all) particularly the bit about Bach. When I try to formulate any coherent thoughts about this book, I simply can't. It has lots of funny, clever moments, but somehow doesn't gel as a whole in my mind.
