13 TALES OF TERROR: BOOK 9
yikes, the gloomiest of dystopias, the driest of writing, plus the inevitable sardonic twist ending to make your heart shrivel. an unhappy classic. read this while listening to the totally inappropriate eurythmics soundtrack and your mind will break too! mine sure did. the acid probably helped. ah, college.

Depressing, and worrying. I read this first what feels like an awful long time ago -- if I was in my teens when I first read it, I'd be surprised. It's amazing how influential it is, how much our culture references it. And how little people actually know about it, if quizzed.

The book that's had the profoundest effect on me in recent memory. Quite simply mindblowing.

Amazing to read as an adult. I find it amusing that someone thought it was a great idea to have high schools read this book. There is no way on earth kids can get the subtlety of it until they have seen a bit of political life. I'm not saying it's a subtle book, actually. I suggest it's too politically subtle for a child who cannot participate in or understand politics. There are those who can and do, but I don't have any recollection of most of this book, although I actually recall reading it.
