Margaret Atwood looms large in that particularly Canadian part of my literary subconscious, the part that natters at me to call stuff "CanLit" and berates me for having never read anything by Michael Ondaatje. Atwood is Kind Of A Big Deal, but so far I have managed to avoid reading any of her novels and have read, as far as I can recall, one of her short stories. People recommended Margaret Atwood to me over and over again. This was the second of her books that I read. I wasn't as impressed by it as people led me to expect I would be, but I did like the way it was written. The way you gradually build up information about the world is good, and keeps you interesting, and it's a very readable book. The ending struck me as a little... not clichéd, exactly, but something like that.
