Recommended often in comments on The Toast, I am making time to check out Bujold's Vorkosigan Saga, a character-driven sci-fi series. This is her first novel, and I was prepared for it to be rough, but it was sophisticated and packed a lot into its story. I think it's the only military sci-fi I've read where one of the main storylines deals with the rape of female prisoners of war, from the point of view of a female protagonist.

Cordelia and Aral are very charming separately and together. I especially enjoyed t

I love the Vorkosigan Saga. They are fun, lighthearted space operas with interesting things to say about humanity and the ways in which we interact. The first two books in the series (Shards of Honor and Barrayar) are among my favorites because of the main character, Cordelia Naismith. She is strong, kind, stubborn, loving, and a wonderful example of how female characters in sci-fi can be kick-ass without losing depth of character. A delightful romp!
