I absolutely LOVED Unexpected Fate by Harper Sloan!! Ok, I will be completely honest and say that this was my first book that I have read from Harper Sloan. I know I must be crazy for not reading her previous books from the Corps Security series but don’t worry after reading Unexpected Fate, I am bonafide Harper Sloan fan and will be reading all her books now.

So I love this book hard! It was sexy, sweet and most of all FUNNY! Axel is hysterical! I couldn't stop laughing at his antics. He was the ultimate protective father in this but he wasn't the story so let's get to that.
Dani Reid is the daughter of Axel and Izzy. Cohen Cage is the son of Greg and Melissa. He was Melissa's sister's son but she got custody after her sister died. You don't have to read the previous books in this series but I really recommend it. Why? First, they are really good - li So I love this book hard! It was sexy, sweet and most of all FUNNY! Second, you'll get know the backstory for all the featured characters in this book.
All right, now to business....

Dani Reid had been in love with Cohen since nearly birth. Their families were close and she grew up with him. Cohen is five or six years older than she is so anything happening between them was really not about to happen when they were young.

Now though they are all grown up and things change after Cohen keeps an eye on her while she was down with a fever. Soon all the thoughts and feeling they both had for each other are out in the open but Cohen still hesitates to move things forward. Dani, isn't very happy with that and tried a few different tactics to get him to see that he better make his move or let her go.

You can only guess his decision.

Things move on from there and their relationship builds and it is sweet and sexy and sometimes quite hot. I smiled a lot while reading this book. There was of course some angst (I would've liked to have seen a bit more) that had me guessing and wondering and at times yelling at the screen of my Kindle.

The ending had me in tears and hoping that we might just see more about the other children of Corps Securities. Very well done. Highly recommended. Sloan Harper has a unique way to her writing that draws you into her stories and characters and she makes you want to know everyone's stories. Here's hoping for more from this series.

Side note: Funniest lines in the book are from Axel. To say he had a difficult time letting his little girl go is an understatement ...more

Despite being disappointed with the last book in the Corps Security series, I was still excited to read this spin-off series centred around their children.

This is the story of Cohen (Cage's son) and Dani (Axel's daughter). The two have grown up together and are the bestest of best friends, even though they have feelings for each other that go beyond that of friends. Dani has not really hidden how she feels about Cohen, but as years of seemingly unrequited lov 4-everytime-i-close-my-eyes stars

This is the story of Cohen (Cage's son) and Dani (Axel's daughter). The two have grown up together and are the bestest of best friends, even though they have feelings for each other that go beyond that of friends. Dani has not really hidden how she feels about Cohen, but as years of seemingly unrequited love pass, she tries her best to move on. From Cohen's POV, it's clear that he loves her and has tried to fight this for a variety of reasons, beginning with their age different - I mean, a 21 year old man falling in love with a 16 year old is awkward at the best of times, but falling for Axel Reid's princess. Errr, not a great idea. So he understandably keeps a lid on his feelings. But years pass and around two weeks before Cohen is due to leave on a mission (he's followed in his Father's footsteps and became a marine), the two find themselves together when Dani falls sick. He acts as her 'nurse' and after a close encounter, the two finally get it on.

In the CS series all the heroes were ex-military, so there were no deployments or time spent apart from each other (with the exception of Izzy and Axel's story) but what i liked about this book, despite the angst it created, was how Dani and Cohen had to deal with his second tour abroad. And this coming so soon after they managed to act on their love for each other. This added to the emotion and i found myself desperate for the two to be able to continue with their lives together. When they do, alongside some surprises in between and Cohen's f'#ck up when he jumps to conclusions, their reunion is sweet and super-hot!

Cohen is every bit as possessive and alpha as the CS guys, without him being a carbon copy. I guess ive rated 4 stars instead of 5 due to the (IMO) unnecessary added drama - (view spoiler). Who in their right mind would do that to the daughter of Axel Reid? A woman under the protection of a bunch of super-tough-ex-military guys? Not smart!

Still, a great read and a promising intro to another series - this time about rock stars - Loaded replay/ Cant wait for that!

4.5 stars!! I love this author and the CS series so I was all over this one. Cohen Cage did not disappoint! It had everything I look for in a book to make me want to sink my teeth into and go along for the ride. This one didn't have a ton of angst, there were more suspenseful aspects to it. I really enjoyed Cohen and Dani's story!! ...more

This is a spin-off of the Corps Security series. It may be read as a standalone, but I suggest reading the Corps Series. All the characters we fell in love with are in this book. Knowing the guys and gals from Corps helps to understand Cohen and Dani's relationship. The main characters are the children of our beloved Corps family.

Dani is Axel Reid's baby girl, at least she will always be his little girl to him. Dani is all grown up now. How does the alpha man, Axel deal with it?
