I absolutely LOVED Unexpected Fate by Harper Sloan!! Ok, I will be completely honest and say that this was my first book that I have read from Harper Sloan. I know I must be crazy for not reading her previous books from the Corps Security series but don’t worry after reading Unexpected Fate, I am bonafide Harper Sloan fan and will be reading all her books now.

Despite being disappointed with the last book in the Corps Security series, I was still excited to read this spin-off series centred around their children.

This is the story of Cohen (Cage's son) and Dani (Axel's daughter). The two have grown up together and are the bestest of best friends, even though they have feelings for each other that go beyond that of friends. Dani has not really hidden how she feels about Cohen, but as years of seemingly unrequited lov 4-everytime-i-close-my-eyes stars

This is the story of Cohen (Cage's son) and Dani (Axel's daughter). The two have grown up together and are the bestest of best friends, even though they have feelings for each other that go beyond that of friends. Dani has not really hidden how she feels about Cohen, but as years of seemingly unrequited love pass, she tries her best to move on. From Cohen's POV, it's clear that he loves her and has tried to fight this for a variety of reasons, beginning with their age different - I mean, a 21 year old man falling in love with a 16 year old is awkward at the best of times, but falling for Axel Reid's princess. Errr, not a great idea. So he understandably keeps a lid on his feelings. But years pass and around two weeks before Cohen is due to leave on a mission (he's followed in his Father's footsteps and became a marine), the two find themselves together when Dani falls sick. He acts as her 'nurse' and after a close encounter, the two finally get it on.

In the CS series all the heroes were ex-military, so there were no deployments or time spent apart from each other (with the exception of Izzy and Axel's story) but what i liked about this book, despite the angst it created, was how Dani and Cohen had to deal with his second tour abroad. And this coming so soon after they managed to act on their love for each other. This added to the emotion and i found myself desperate for the two to be able to continue with their lives together. When they do, alongside some surprises in between and Cohen's f'#ck up when he jumps to conclusions, their reunion is sweet and super-hot!

Cohen is every bit as possessive and alpha as the CS guys, without him being a carbon copy. I guess ive rated 4 stars instead of 5 due to the (IMO) unnecessary added drama - (view spoiler). Who in their right mind would do that to the daughter of Axel Reid? A woman under the protection of a bunch of super-tough-ex-military guys? Not smart!

Still, a great read and a promising intro to another series - this time about rock stars - Loaded replay/ Cant wait for that!

This is the first book in the Hope Town series by Harper Sloan. This is a spinoff of the CorpsSecurity series, which I have loved since Axel. You don't have to read that series first, but I highly recommend you do so that you will have background of all the characters in Unexpected Fate. This is Dani and Cohen's story.

There were parts that had me laughing, hard. Like in the prologue when Dani's date for her senior prom is there to pick her up. I didn't think Axel could be anymore alpha, or protective, but I was wrong, and it was great.

There were also parts that had the tears flowing, or trying to flow. I don't want to give those parts away. I think some of my tears are because I know what you go through when the person you love has to go dark during a deployment. Luckily, mine isn't special ops.

Dani is Axel and Izzy's "little princess". She has grown up surrounded by all these alpha males. She has always been in love with Cohen.

"I'm going to miss you, Cohen. I know you don't look at me like I look at you, but one day, you're going to come back and I'll still be waiting for you. Waiting for you to see me like I see you. mark my words, Cohen Cage. One of these days, you're going to be mine. And until you're ready...I'll be here. I'll be waiting."

Cohen is the little boy we all fell in love with in Cage. The little super hero that would always wear his cape to fight ninjas and bad guys. The little boy that would talk about his dad having his penis pierced. Only now, he isn't a little boy anymore. He is still fighting the bad guys and has his own piercings. he has been pushing his feelings for Dani away, for a long time. At least, until he can't anymore. That letter he wrote her, OMG! Being raised around all those alpha males, he's just as alpha as they are.

I never thought I would see a side of Axel that we do in this book. Or that somebody would go alpha on him, for his daughter, but Cohen does! He and lives through it!

"I'm going to tell you once, Axel. I love your daughter. I've loved her before it was right to feel that way. I fought those feelings until she was ready for me, because I'll tell you this. It was never a question that I was ready for her. What we have is something I will never feel worthy of. Not of her love. Something she gives me without hesitation. I know she deserves the best that life can hand her. You do not have to remind me of that. But even though I don't think I'm good enough for her, I'll spend my life making sure that she knows she's the best thing I will ever have. Do you understand that? I will make sure there isn't a day that passes that she doesn't know how much I love her. I'll spend every second I have left on this Earth giving her everything I possibly can. I waited, out of respect for you and for her,until I couldn't wait a second longer, and I will not - not for you - give up even a sliver of time with her now that she's mine."

I really hope that there will be more books in this series. I love seeing all the kids of the Corps Security grown up. ...more

I really enjoyed this book. Axel and Cage were my favorite CS heroes so their kids coming together was just icing on the cake.

Is there anything better than the overprotective papa bear that is Axel? (The answer is NO.)
Axel was amazing. Cohen was amazing. Chance was amazing. I loved him and can't wait to read his story! I wouldn't have minded a little more Cage. For being Cohen's dad, he didn't make it in as much as I thought and hoped he would. He did make it for the important part with some so ...more
