Ohhh Goddd!! What a plot twist.
In the entire book I was like:
hmmm team Cal. No!! Team Maven.. Hmm Team Cal.. Team Maven.. Team Cal&Maven :P
And then:

I really, really enjoyed reading this book, why did i not pick it up for so long. Its set in a kingdom/ castle which is one of my favourite settings for a YA fantasy book. I loved the concept of this book with the two different colour bloods to identify which part of the city you were from. I loved Mare as a character, i felt that even though she was terrified at times she still stood for what she believed in which was to protect her family and best friend. Slow to develop.
The world building has potential but was very slow to start. Character development, while better than world building, is still limiting in this first installment. Some of there YA authors need to look at some other established fantasy authors and consider longer books with better development and fewer books. Then again maybe that thought should be directed at the agents and publishers....
