I hadn't heard of this book or the author before, so I didn't know there was any hype surrounding it.
It was on the list of reading for a Bookclub so I picked it as it's not normally something I would go for.
I think the premise of the book is quite compelling - a caseworker investigating an orphanage for magical children, however, it the story, and the world surrounding it, felt flat to me.
Although I'm assuming its allegorical in nature, I wish more time had been spent building a more realistic w ...more

This book was super cute but not something I would gravitate towards again. It’s about a caseworker who investigates orphanages of magical children. He gets assigned to a secret project of especially dangerous children, but ends up falling in love with all the kids and the caretaker.

I thought the book was charming, easy to read and had important themes of acceptance, kindness and bravery.
