This book was slow until around the halfway point. Then it really picked up. There are a ton of characters we read about but it is not hard at all to keep track and follow their journey but also to grasp the way Ng developed them. Ng has developed so much since her debut novel (Everything I Never Told You). While I disliked the first book, I loved this one. Writing is elegant. Characters are well-developed. Story kept my attention and held it. Listened to the audio book. Narrative was very good. And a bonus for me is that it takes place in Shaker Heights, OH.

I didn't expect to like this book because often books that are hyped up so much are not able to live up to those expectations. Enjoyable insight into US family life. But I feel like it had a few loose ends. the reader is forced to see an issue from all the sides.
An interesting look into family dynamics.
