I struggled to stay interested for half of the book. The second half did get much better, so much so that I stayed awake and finished it. It wasn't the writing or the story that lost my interest. To be honest, I don't know what it was that lacked for me. The characters were well developed, although one of the characters I had a deep dislike for. I think it was a point of view issue for me. Ng has developed so much since her debut novel (Everything I Never Told You). While I disliked the first book, I loved this one. Writing is elegant. Characters are well-developed. Story kept my attention and held it. Listened to the audio book. Narrative was very good. And a bonus for me is that it takes place in Shaker Heights, OH.

This very rarely happens. I did not like the audio of this book so much that I couldn’t finish it. I don’t get the fuss about this book. I would give it half a star if I could. It
Just seemed really slow in the beginning:
