Well, here I am yet again, swimming upstream and going against the grain. I just didn’t enjoy Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine.

I will leave the traditional summary to those who have already provided it, as there are literally hundreds of glowing, positive reviews that give specific plot details. Suffice it to say, the entire book made me hugely uncomfortable. Even the attempts at humor were wistful, as it felt that the reader was having a laugh directly at Eleanor’s expense. Absolutely loved this book.
Eleanor Oliphant is a peculiar 30 year old who lives alone and minds her own business. She phones her mom once a week at clockwork regularity. Her life becomes topsy turvy when she meets a computer serviceman Raymond, her almost opposite in most things, and somehow their friendship grows. She also is fascinated by a local musician and tries to improve her looks to be noticed by him. She also saves Sammy, a septugenarian with an extended family

Eleanor Oliphant is a book about loneliness and mental health. Eleanor is the classic unreliable narrator observing life from the sideline and making wry social commentary about the uselessness of it all. The story takes place in Glasgow, Eleanor is a bookkeeper at a design firm, and she keeps her human interaction to a minimum. But one day she becomes involved almost against her will in other people's lives and the routine she built herself into begins to unravel for various reasons. This book ...more

A good, but not a great read. Eleanor is a complex, quirky character whom Honeyman develops nicely. Strong first novel. Parts of the story were just not believable. Ending could have been stronger.
