Yeah... no.
I wanted to give it 2 stars, but decided against it last minute - the first half of the book was actually enjoyable and the premise sounded too good to be true. For a split second, I even thought that this will not be your regular let's-insert-romance-for-the-sake-of-it YA, but boy wasn't I wrong?!
There is not much I feel the need to stay about it. I had great hopes and I really really really wanted to love it. Somehow, I am sad I won't be continuing with the next volume but the amo ...more

Edited - this still sticks with me so I’ve upped the rating. I struggled with this review. There are many things I really liked about this book. The details in mythology are very well done. The parallels between the oppression of the maji and the killings of young unarmed black men are well done.
