Great premise and beginning, mediocre familiar zombie thriller-filler middle, great ending.

There are surprises that I don't want to give away, but let me say this book is an amazing read that you shouldn't miss.

So I randomly picked up this book, not knowing what it was truly about. I read the synopsis on Goodreads after I've already bought it and thought it was pretty interesting. I, however, wasn't prepared to love and enjoy this book the way I did. This was psychologically disturbing and emotionally horrifying mainly because of how M. Carey chose to put his thoughts together. Melanie, the 10 year old protagonist, is described very differently by the characters she's surrounded with, which is why this ...more

I absolutely love this take on the zombie genre. The characters are well developed. Just a thoroughly brilliant read.

I couldn't stop listening to this. It was intriguing, heart tugging, frightening, and ugh-ing! Didn't realize it was about a main character Melanie who was a zombie, but not the Walking Dead zombie. Those books I usually avoid. Instead, this zombie pulled me in; I found myself caring for Melanie and what would happen to her. Intriguing book! Now on to her next book The Boy on the Bridge. ...more
